Camping and Hiking

Camping and hiking are both key parts of Troop 1. The Troop does camping trips about once a month on average from places as varied as Harriman State Park or Washington DC! The Troop also frequently hosts hiking trips to allow scouts to explore in the outdoors, as well as learn navigational skills.

Camping

Camping trips are a great place for scouts to learn and advance their skills. There are two types of Troop 1 camping trips, backpacking, and car camping. Car camping is more relaxed and scouts can usually work on Rank advancement or hang out with friends. Backpacking allows scouts to push themselves by carrying everything they will need on their backs to their campsite. With a camping trip every month there are lots of different opportunities for Scouts to get outside!

Hiking

Hiking is another great way to enjoy nature without having without the commitment a camping trip takes. Troop 1 will normally host a hike a month, usually near Pelham home. Recent hikes have included climing Breakneck ridge, exploring Harriman State park, and even a 20-mile walk through New York City. There are hikes for people of all skill levels and they can make for a fun weekend activity.
